Your Website is the Perfect Advertising Venue

Make sure you have the correct elements in place to gain more traffic, direct your visitors, engage them, inform them and compel them to respond to your offers.

Your website is the perfect advertising venue
When DP Ball Advertising first started designing websites back in 1995, we had a hard time convincing some RV dealers that they should even have one! Imagine that! We recognized that it was the perfect venue for direct response advertising to engage customers and compel them to respond. Today, a website is as important to your business as your facility, but it still remains underutilized in most markets. Those who adopted early, have expanded their businesses dramatically, while many are still trying to catch up. Unfortunately many new businesses have seen the RV Industry as a paycheck, without any real concern regarding results. So, they build your site, tell you it looks wonderful, they 'build for SEO' and you're all set! Then you spend money hand over fist to drive traffic, and in many cases dealers are not driving it to their own website but to others. There is confusion in the marketplace regarding digital. It all works together, and should work together to drive traffic to your website, which is fast becoming the foundation of your business. But when they come, are you ready? Do you direct them, or do you just put up navigation links and let them figure it out for themselves? You must make them a benefit rich offer that will compel them to pick up the phone, ask questions in an email, sign up for your newsletter, click on your online accessories store or schedule service.

We can help with strong and compelling headlines, attention grabbing graphics and more. We understand the RV consumer and what it takes to get them to your site, through your site, and through your door.

We understand the evolution of changing technology, SEO, social media, paid search and digital advertising, and we understand the RV consumer. If you are wondering what you could do better to enhance the performance of your site, we can help. If you are satisfied with your web development team, that's great - we can work with them to make improvements. There many elements dealers aren't utlizing that will get them more traffic. More importantly, there are elements that are not in place that can keep customers loyal, build trust, set your dealership apart from the competition, engage visitors and generate contact/leads.

Performance Elements Your Dealership's Website Needs

Improve Your Website's Performance - Direct Traffic - Increase Sales

  1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - It is much more than keywords and ranking. It has evolved through the years, and we have kept up with the changes. Responsive design, secure certificates, dealership reviews, listings, citations, reputation, type of content, the way your pages are formatted - All of these things count to search engines. We can help!
  2. Content - Content is King. It always has been, and that isn't changing in the foreseable future. People want information, and they visit your website to find more than a list of your inventory. The more in-depth content you have, the better. But it needs to be high quality, unique and engaging. Videos, images, articles, blogs, downloadable lists, lifestyle information, recipes, how-tos, instructions, travel tips, destinations, issues that pertain to pets, children, elderly, challenged, millenials - The list goes on. If you are interested in establishing your dealership as an authority in the industry as you provide customers with a positive user experience, we can help!
  3. Responsive Design - From desktop and laptop to tablet and mobile, your website must be responsive. Some RV dealership web development services will build you a desktop site and a mobile site, but that just won't cut it with today's user. The mobile site many times only houses an intro page, inventory, and contact page. Everything else on your site is so tiny, it isn't readable, or just isn't linked in your mobile site. Are you building landing pages for your PPC customers to land on and complete your offer? They can't get there by phone on a desktop site - about 50% of your customers. Make sure your site is Responsive, not Mobile. There's a big difference. We can help!
  4. Structured Data - As search engines are learning, search is evolving. Your website needs to evolve too. From Knowledge Graphs to Answer Boxes, search engines rely on brief and concise structured data, along with in-depth content for appearance in those top positions. How do you do both? We can help!
  5. Landing Pages - Visitors can and will land on any page of your website from search. Are you ready for them everywhere? We can help!
  6. Security - You need a secure website to protect your customers. Recently Google announce they will announce the status of your website to visitors who arrive beginning in July 2018. In a push for a more secure web, and the rise of malicious software lurking on unsuspecting websites, it's best for consumers. HTTPS will provide your website with a bit of a boost in ranking. And, we don't suspect your will be recommended in voice search without it.

SSL Certificates

What is the difference between HTTP and HTTPS?
Is an SSL Certificate Necessary?

In an effort to make the web a safer place, Google recently announced that they will inform visitors of the security status of a website when they arrive on a site. If your website isn't HTTPS there is concern that announcing unsecured status will drive traffic away. If you haven't considered it in the past, now is the time. This begins in July. We anticipate a bit of a scramble to get SSL certificates, there that may increase the wait time which now takes a few hours to a few days to get one implemented depending on the type of certificate you choose.

What is SSL?

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer, a security method which allows for the encryption of data when being transferred over a server. SSL certificates help to protect the transfer of sensitive information such as credit card numbers and passwords.

There are three common types of SSL certificates. Choosing the right one should be based on the type of transactions that take place on your website

  1. DOMAIN VALIDATED CERTIFICATE - Low Assurance Certificate. This is the standard certificate issued. This confirms the domain is registered and an administrator approves the request. The process can be confirmed via email.
  2. ORGANIZATION VALIDATED CERTIFICATE - High Assurance Certificate. This type requires validation of domain ownership and organization name and address.
  3. EXTENDED VALIDATION CERTIFICATE - This type of certificate checks to ensure that the business is a legal entity and business information is validated to prove ownership of the domain.

Choosing an SSL Certificate This can be complicated, since not all providers offer all the same certificate types. If you plan to stick with the same SSL provider for more than one year, you can often receive a substantial discount if you pay for two or more years upfront.

You can contact your hosting service, registrar, or web developer to help you with the process. Most hosting services offer SSL certificates, as do registrars. the cost varies greatly. Keep in mind that you must renew the certificate yearly. An expired certificate will invalidate your HTTPS.

What does HTTPS mean?

Simply put, it is an acronym for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure, meaning data transfered from the site to the visitor is secure, and data they transmit to the site is encrypted. The level of security needed is determined by what type of data visitors transmit. Payment systems, and credit card applications may require specific levels, and you should ask your vendor for requirements if you implement these on your site.

Your website is the foundation of all your digital marketing efforts. You are driving customers to your site, so make sure you are prepared to received them, direct them, engage them, tell them how to proceed, compel them contact you and respond to them quickly.

There are a number of items we suggest to dealers to increase the amount of content on their websites
Customers don't just visit your website to look at your inventory. They are seeking a dealership that will treat them well before and after the sale. That means providing information about the RVing experience. As Millenials join in the RVing family, they are seeking the experience that comes with visiting exciting destinations and experiencing the thrill of participating in what each area has to offer. From mountain biking, hiking, surfing and walking trailers, to visiting attractions, fishing charters, diving, climbing and spulunking, they seek the experience. You can provide them with the highlights of destinations, how to operate, hook-up, and tow their RV. Help them realize that they can join in the fun, in whatever floorplans and models you offer. Make sure you have towing guides, instructions to operate slides and awnings, the difference between black water, grey water and potable water. You're the teacher, so teach! You will be their dealership even before they make a purchase. Simple FAQ pages to anwer their questions go a long way in providing information, and can help increase your ranking to position #0 in search, at the top in Google's Answer Box.

Keep important information above the fold.
Trends dictate design. Many RV dealership website developers fall in love with their designs, but don't think much about function. When a visitor arrives on your website they need to find what they need quickly in your main navigation. But they also need to be able to do in-depth research about RVing. A well designed, responsive site will satisfy those needs. Don't leave a huge space above the fold with video and images. That's the most valuable real estate on your webpage. Coca Cola or Target can do it, but you don't have their budget, and can't afford for visitors to leave because they can't figure out where to go. Direct them. They arrived, but your job is not done. Show them where to go with good graphics, but remember - search engines don't read graphics. They read text. Alt text should be placed on every image, and they should be named appropriately. Many platforms replace image names with numbers. We use a platform that allows for the appropriate image name with a 4 digit code at the end. That way search engines, and human searchers looking for images in Google can find your product, and click through to your website. There are many ways to get clicks through to your website and this is just one.
